One Future One Planet

One Future One Planet  is an international initiative and platform for building sustainable communities through shared activities, community actions, volunteer projects, and events.

One Future One Planet was originally launched as a collective initiative to bring people together from all over the world in Global Dialogues to prepare for the Rio+20 UN Conference that took place in June 2012. Eight countries participated in these dialogues, from December 2011 to June 2012.  The countries that participated were: Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Burundi region (involving Ruanda, Kenya, Congo and Uganda), Mauritius Island, New Zealand, Norway, and Brazil.

In Mauritius, the Global Dialogues were launched on 11 February 2012, through ELIA-Ecological Living In Action. ELIA was the official coordinator for OFOP Mauritius and Indian Ocean Region from February 2012 to November 2012. One Island Institute took over the role of ELIA in December 2012 and at the same time became the project steward for the whole One Future One Planet Initiative internationally.

In Mauritius the Dialogues continued post Rio+20 and a strong volunteer community developed under the leadership of One Island Institute and ELIA. One Future One Planet is now operating as a vibrant network and sustainable community through which many local and regional projects and initiatives emerge that each contribute to the co-creation of  a more sustainable and flourishing society and future. Examples of such projects are, community gardening, roof gardens, monthly nature walks, collective clean-up events, arts projects, permaculture, car-pooling initiatives, and zero-waste strategies.

One Future One Planet initiatives currently take place in the following countries: Mauritius, Switzerland, France, and Sweden. If you like to get involved get in touch with us via the contact page.
